Waikiki power outage reported after loud boom heard nearby
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The power went out in part of Waikiki Tuesday morning after people in the area heard a loud boom.

Outage notifications came in around 10:30 a.m., for customers near Ena Road and Hobron Lane.
Hawaiian Electric crews were sent to the scene to assess and repair the issue.
Several traffic lights and businesses nearby went dark, including the Waikiki post office and the Food Pantry at Eaton Square.
HECO has not confirmed the cause of the outage, but a witness spoke with our team about what he saw and heard.

Lawrence Stewart, who lives in the area says transformer outages are a common problem, saying it happens a couple times a year.
“I just heard a loud explosion, and when I came out, I just saw a lot of smoke,” Stewart said. He went on to say it sounded “like someone dropped a bomb.”
Around 2:30 p.m., the City confirmed that there was an outage in the Hilton Hawaiian Village area and that power has been partially restored.
