National Spam Musubi Day was established in 2021 through a proclamation by Hawaii’s governor and recognition by the National Day Archives. The date, Aug. 8, was chosen in honor of Hawaii’s 808 area code.
L&L said the annual event celebrates one of Hawaii’s best-known local foods while sharing the islands’ food culture with communities across the country.
