First Alert Forecast: Light wind, chance of locally heavy rain as Fausto passes to the north

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Tropical Depression Fausto is passing to the north of the islands. As it does so, it will disrupt the trade wind flow.

Wins will be light and variable for Kauai and Oahu, while Maui County and Hawaii can expect breezy southeast winds by afternoon.

it will be warm and muggy, and the light winds combined with tropical moisture associated with Fausto will bring a chance of localized heavy afternoon showers for leeward and interior areas of the islands, but no widespread rainfall is expected.

Drier trade wind weather will move in Thursday after Fausto clears the state. The trades could become quite breezy this coming weekend.

A High Surf Warning remains in effect for east-facing shores due to the swell generated earlier by Fausto, but wave heights will be falling through the day Wednesday.

South shores will have close=to-average summer surf due to a series of south swells. North shore waves could get a brief boost as Fausto passes, and then return to mostly flat conditions for the latter part of the week.
