FEMA approves federal funding for South Kohala fire costs
KAILUA-KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) – FEMA has authorized the use of federal funding for Hawaii, after a wildfire scorched almost 700 acres of land on Hawaii Island over the weekend.

The fire broke out Saturday evening in South Kohala, near Kawaihae Road.
As of Sunday, all evacuation orders were lifted and firefighters extinguished the blaze.
State officials applied for a Fire Management Assistance Grant as the fire was threatening hundreds of homes in the Kawaihae and Spencer Beach areas.

In response, FEMA says it will provide funding for up to 75% of eligible firefighting costs.
Eligible costs include expenses for equipment use, materials, supplies, and mobilization related to fighting the fire.
