Honolulu veterans motorcycle club marks 25 years since Sept. 11 attacks

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City and at the Pentagon.

Nine people with ties to Hawaiʻi were among the nearly 3,000 who lost their lives that day.

The Special Forces Brotherhood Motorcycle Club is honoring them as they have done for many years.

“Whether it’s changes to TSA, whether it’s the changes to security throughout the United States, but many of us lost many friends, that day of 9/11, and the current generation weren’t even born at that time,” said retired Army Lt. Col. Pete Tingstrom, who is also with the Special Forces Association.

Every year at Honolulu Hale, Tingstrom is among the military, veterans’ groups, and government officials who gather to pay their respects to the victims of 9/11.

This year’s 9/11 Remembrance and Ride event starts with the ride at 5 p.m. at Cycle City located near City Hall.

Then they’ll join the Mayor’s 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. near the Eternal Flame at Honolulu Hale.

“We sing the national anthem, Hawaii state song. We do play Taps. We have people get up and give a speech about their time at Ground Zero, and tell stories of those incredible Americans that sacrificed their lives,” Tingstrom said.

“This year is very special and so I think every American should come down and honor those sacrifice of those 3,000 Americans and other international allies that were killed by they’re just doing work at work,” he added.
