‘Major milestone’: HART completes Downtown utility relocation work
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu’s rail project reached a big milestone Wednesday, as Skyline makes its way into the urban core.

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation, or HART, announced that it has successfully completed the utility relocation work along Nimitz Highway in Downtown Honolulu, clearing the way for the next phases of construction.
“The completion of the Downtown utility relocation project represents another major milestone for the Honolulu rail project and a significant accomplishment for the entire HART team,” said HART Executive Director and CEO Lori Kahikina.
The relocation included storm drainage systems, sewers, water mains, gas, fuel, electrical, and communications infrastructure, as well as roadway improvements.

Utility relocation work is finished on Kaaahi Street. Work has also wrapped up on Nimitz Highway, from Iwilei Road to Halekauwila Street, and on Halekauwila Street, between Nimitz Highway and Cooke Street.
“With the utilities out of the way, City Center Guideway and Stations contractor, Tutor Perini, has a clear path to construct the guideway and stations through Downtown Honolulu,” Kahikina said.
Utility relocation along Dillingham Boulevard is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
