Speeding remains top violation on Daniel K. Inouye Highway as enforcement continues
HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) conducted over 300 traffic stops last week as high-visibility traffic enforcement operations continue along Daniel K. Inouye Highway, also known as Saddle Road.

The department is conducting a focused enforcement campaign along the highway in an effort to reduce injuries and fatalities caused by motor vehicle crashes.
Police said last week, officers made 303 traffic stops and documented a range of violations, including 187 speeding citations, 8 reckless driving violations, 3 unsafe passing violations, and 83 other traffic violations.
Police also reported one arrest for other offenses during that time period.
In total, HPD says officers conducted 1,069 traffic stops along the Daniel K. Inouye Highway and recorded numerous violations, including 649 speeding violations, 17 reckless driving violations, 6 unsafe passing violations, and 509 other traffic violations.

Enforcement efforts also resulted in two arrests for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant (OVUII) and five arrests for other offenses.
HPD says they will continue proactive traffic enforcement along Saddle Road to address hazardous driving behaviors.
