A jury on Monday found Kacey Kawika Jennings, 33, guilty of all counts, including capital murder, in the 2022 death of Allison Maria Castro, who was also from Hawaii Island. She was 28 at the time.
Prosecutors said Jennings shot Castro and threw the gun and parts of her body into Beaver Lake. Both had graduated from Kealakehe High School before reconnecting on the mainland.

During Jennings’ sentencing hearing Tuesday, prosecutors sought the death penalty while the defense argued that his history created a mitigating circumstance for Castro’s murder.
Jennings faces 22 additional years in prison and $30,000 in fines for charges of abuse of a corpse, theft, and evidence tampering.
