Rainbow Warriors head to Bay Area for highly anticipated season opener at Stanford
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Rainbow Warriors football team left the UH Lower Campus Thursday morning, bound for the Bay Area.

The team is set to take on Stanford after completing a demanding offseason and fall training camp.
“I think the guys, you know, they put themselves in position to succeed and so they worked really hard and proud of how they worked, but now it’s time to go and execute and go have fun,” head coach Timmy Chang said. “We put ourselves in a position to go win these games.”
The Rainbow Warriors are trying to defeat the Cardinal for the second consecutive year.
They started the 2025 season with a come-from-behind victory at home, but the players remember the slow start that put them in a deficit in the first place.
“We come out really bad, I give up a sack for a touchdown on the 1-yard line and we fair catch on the 2-yard line, so we give them 10 points off the rip,” quarterback Micah Alejado recalled. “Our biggest point of emphasis is you look at last year, we started really slow. We only got two touchdowns in the first half. That’s the big emphasis, starting fast, you know, being who we are.”

Despite being thousands of miles away from home, the ‘Bows are expecting a big showing from the UH faithful.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Alejado said. “They got Pacific Heritage Night, so we probably see a lot of islanders up there, but I know our crowd will be up there. I know we’ll be representing the green.”
Saturday marks the beginning of a new journey for UH, one that started with a lot of preseason hype surrounding the team and its quarterback.
But the ‘Bows plan to block out the noise.
“Not to down any of those awards because they are prestigious and truly grateful, but at the end of the day, you got to go out there and go play some good football and win some games,” Alejado said.
“For us as a team, it’s about going out there, not letting in noise,” Alejado said. “Whatever people say about us or whatever reward we may got in preseason, we understand that, you know, those awards will be given out at the end of the season and our main goal is to go win the championship and make the playoffs.”

Kickoff against the Cardinal is set for 1 p.m. Hawaii time on the ACC Network.
