Snorkeler found unresponsive off Koolina pronounced dead

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 62-year-old man was pronounced dead after he was pulled from the water off Koʻolina Wednesday.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the man was snorkeling when he became unresponsive at around 1:20 p.m.

Honolulu Ocean Safety Department said at around 1:30 p.m., it responded to a report of CPR being performed on an unresponsive man aboard a commercial boat tour offshore of Kahe Point Beach Park.

HOSD said the boat made its way to Koʻolina Harbor, and lifeguards boarded with emergency medical equipment. The boat crew continued CPR, and lifeguards assisted with resuscitation efforts and conducted an automated external defibrillator (AED) analysis.

Ocean Safety said the boat continued to Koʻolina Harbor, where Honolulu fire and Emergency Medical Services were on standby. Care was then transferred to EMS.

HPD said the man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police do not suspect foul play.
