New DMV self-service kiosk in Kailua Foodland

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The city announced the opening of a new Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) self-service kiosk inside the Foodland at Kailua Town Center Thursday.

The city said it gives Windward Oahu residents another option to renew and print their vehicle registration while getting groceries during regular store hours, evenings, and weekends without having to go to a satellite city hall.

“Our goal is simple: make it easier for people to do business with the City,” said Department of Customer Services Director Kim Hashiro. “Renewing your vehicle registration shouldn’t require rearranging your day. These kiosks allow residents to take care of it while they’re already out shopping, and the tremendous response shows us this is a service people value.”

The city said residents completed 195,630 vehicle registrations at DMV kiosks last year.

The new Kailua kiosk is the 11th on Oahu.

A $4 remote transaction fee applies in addition to a 2.5% fee for credit and debit card transactions. Kiosks can process registration renewals up to 10 months after the expiration date. Late registrations are subject to the standard $16 late fee, and the vehicle must have a current safety inspection.
