First Alert Forecast: Trade winds returning

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Lowell has moved far enough to our northwest that the trade winds are making a comeback. But not before one last bit of trailing moisture soaks parts of Hawaii Island.

There was a flood advisory for much of this evening for the southern third of the Big Island. Some spots have received another 2-4 inches of rainfall in the last 24 hours. The showers have abated and things are now looking better.

Tropical storm Norbert has formed 2,200 miles to our east. The latest National Hurricane Center (NHC) forecast has Norbert strengthening into a hurricane by this weekend as it makes its way west.

The NHC track and forecast go out only 5 days and show Norbert as a tropical storm and still about 800 miles to our east next Tuesday. Some computer models that forecast further out in time show the storm approaching Hawaii Island from the southeast by next Friday.

The forecast track and intensity are very likely to change. Stay tuned.
