Moped operator dies after Kamehameha Highway crash in Haleiwa

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – On Wednesday, a traffic fatality involving a moped occurred on Kamehameha Highway in the Haleiwa area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department at 11:23 a.m. that a 51-year-old man, driving a moped, was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway when, for unknown reasons, he traveled to the right of the roadway and lost control.

The 51-year-old moped operator was then ejected onto the unimproved shoulder area.

As a result of the collision, the 51-year-old man was transported by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The 51-year-old moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

At this time, speed does not appear to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor.

This is the 25th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 52 at the same time in 2025.
