Missing 74-year-old Kauai man found dead after storm

KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) – Kauai officials believe the death of a man found along the shoreline near Nomilu Fishpond is connected to Hurricane Lowell.

A 74-year-old Kalaheo man was found dead around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials said first responders were sent to the Nomilu Fishpond area around 9 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a missing person.

Crews from the Kauai Police Department, Kauai Fire Department and Department of Land and Natural Resources searched the area but were unable to find him.

The man was located the following day along the ocean shoreline fronting the fishpond.

Officials believe his death was related to storm surge from Hurricane Lowell in the area where he was found.

An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death.

Foul play is not suspected, and the investigation remains ongoing.
