Man arrested after HPD shuts University Ave. gambling room

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A man was arrested after the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) shut down an illegal game room Wednesday on Univeristy Avenue.

According to HPD, on Wednesday, at around 6 p.m., the department’s Narcotics/Vice Division Gambling Detail executed a search warrant on the property, recovering 10 gaming machines, more than $3,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

Police said the drugs were submitted into evidence.

During the investigation, a 36-year-old man was arrested for promoting gambling in the second degree and possession of a gambling device.

Head of HPD’s Narcotics/Vice Division, Maj. Jerome Pacarro said the department is making progress against illegal game rooms across Oahu.

“The progress we have made against illegal game rooms across Oahu reflects the hard work and dedication of our officers,” he said. “They continue to apply pressure through short-term enforcement while building long-term investigations targeting those who organize and profit from these operations.
