How public adjusters can help navigate Lala-related insurance claims

State officials recently reminded those affected by the storm to file insurance claims as soon as possible.

For those filing, public insurance adjusters are available to help handle the full insurance claim process, including claims denied by insurance companies.

Lisa Joslin, president of Hawaii Public Adjusters, explained that public adjusters act as advocates who work directly for the policyholder, not the insurance companies.

“What a lot of people don’t know or understand is that you have the ability to put your own claim in to the insurance company, you do not have to rely on their adjusters and their staff to put in your claim,” Joslin said.

The group advises anyone with damaged property to contact their insurance carriers immediately to report any losses.

They also recommend making only necessary, temporary repairs, and meticulously documenting all receipts, invoices, and photos of the damage.
