Hawaii firefighters say ‘No’ to common hiking mistakes in viral video

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A humorous video posted by the Honolulu Fire Department highlighting common hiking mistakes is going viral.

The video, posted at 5 a.m. Wednesday, racked up more than 1.6 million views and 93,000 likes on Instagram within 24 hours.

Set to Meghan Trainor’s hit song “No,” the reel shows the common missteps that lead to rescues on Oahu’s most popular trails.

While the video is funny, firefighters say the message is serious; Hiking with no water, a low cell phone battery, or while wearing slippers is dangerous.

The busiest trail for rescues, Koko Head Stairs, is used as the setting for the video.

HFD advises hikers to stay on marked trails, know your limits, and to tell someone where you’re going.
