First Alert Forecast: Partly cloudy skies with some lighter trade winds with enhanced moisture Saturday into Sunday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Nice weather on tap for the weekend with some trade winds for the western side of the state. The eastern side of the state may get some enhanced showers as we go from Saturday night into Sunday thru Tuesday afternoon.

Partly to mostly sunny skies with breezy trades, especially for windward and mauka sections. An upper level low NW of Kauai will pull up some deep tropical moisture later Saturday night/Sunday thru Tuesday.

The enhanced moisture will effect the Eastern side of Hawaii Island from Pahoa up thru the Hamakua Coastline to Hawi late Saturday and the north shore of Haleakala and Maui and Hawaii Island on Sunday and parts of Monday. Most of the showers will happen in the overnight hours.

Typical summertime stable trade wind weather will return Tuesday through the end of the week with mostly to partly sunny skies with scattered showers mainly windward and mauka areas during the nights and early mornings.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for select Hawaiian Waters due to the locally strong trades through the typical windy areas around Maui County and the Big Island. Background medium and long period energy will produce small surf for south facing shores today. A series of larger, medium to long period south swells arrive beginning today, causing surf to trend up for south and west facing shores this weekend into early next week. A moderate, long period south swell will peak near the High Surf Advisory threshold by the middle of next week. Along east facing shores, surf will build this weekend in response to strengthening trade winds. Surf along north shores remains flat to tiny through the period, with a slight bump possible on Sunday from a small, medium-period north swell.
