The seasonal routes will be flown using Alaska’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, marking a major milestone for Seattle’s largest carrier as it pushes to establish Sea-Tac International Airport as a premier global gateway.

When the service begins, Alaska will make history as the first airline to ever connect the Pacific Northwest directly to Greece.

“We fly where our guests aspire to go, and Athens and Paris have been high on that list for years,” Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci said in a statement. “As we build to more than 12 international long-haul routes from Seattle in the coming years, we’re giving travelers more ways to connect to the world.”

The expansion brings a notable benefit for travelers in Hawaii, which serves as Alaska’s second-largest hub following its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines.
