Suspects released in Wahiawa fatal stabbing after prosecutors decline murder charges

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Both suspects in Sunday’s fatal stabbing in Wahiawā have been released after prosecutors declined to charge them with murder, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

The incident happened about 9:15 p.m. Sunday on N. Cane Street.

Police said a 30-year-old man suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

During the investigation, detectives determined the victim became involved in an altercation with occupants and guests of a neighboring apartment unit. Investigators said a verbal confrontation escalated into a physical fight, during which the victim was stabbed multiple times.

Homicide detectives initially identified the suspects as a 23-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man. They were arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Investigators later determined the victim had forcefully entered his neighbor’s apartment and started the assault.

HPD said the case was conferred with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, and murder charges were declined.

Both suspects were released from custody just after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
