Instacart partnership lets shoppers donate groceries to Hawaii Foodbank
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – If you order groceries online, a new Instacart partnership is offering a quick way to donate food to local families in need this summer.

The company launched its Summer Hunger Community Carts campaign Monday, partnering with Feeding America to support 300 food banks and partner agencies nationwide, including the Hawaii Foodbank.
“It’s a simple and convenient way for local folks to donate to the Hawaii Foodbank right from their phone,” said Tracilyn Alo, the nonprofit’s director of communications. “Rather than make the physical donation or actually having to go online to make a monetary donation, they’re just adding to their regular shopping.”

Instacart will waive all service and deliveries fees on donated items.
One in three households in Hawaii struggles with hunger, which includes about 80,000 keiki, Foodbank officials said. They note the need increases among keiki during the summer months when school is out of session.

“We’re hoping to make sure that we can meet or exceed the amount of children that we’re feeding over the summer to get them through to the next school year,” Alo said.
Alo says while the partnership makes giving convenient, monetary donations are most impactful.
“The financial donations always stretch a little further,” she said. “For every case of spam that someone goes out and purchases on their own, we could have bought five.”
