Great Aloha Run returns in 2027 with new DoHo 5K

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Affordable Hawaii Foundation announced Thursday that the inaugural DoHo Great Aloha Run 5K will be held on Presidents Day.

The event is set to take place on Feb. 15, 2027, marking the return of the long-running race after a one-year hiatus in 2026.

Founded in 1985 by Carole Kai Onouye, the Great Aloha Run grew into Hawaii’s largest participatory road race and has raised nearly $20 million for more than 150 nonprofit organizations statewide.

“For more than four decades, this event has brought people together in the spirit of aloha while making a meaningful difference for our communities,” Affordable Hawaii Foundation founder Christine Camp said.

Instead of the traditional Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium route, the race will pass different historic landmarks in downtown Honolulu.

“We’re working with Standford Carr’s project. He expects that to be completed in 2029 so in 2030 we expect to resume the run from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium to celebrate the stadiums completion. But until then it’ll be great Aloha Run DoHo,” Camp added.

The new race will be open to runners, walkers, families and keiki, with participation capped at 5,000 people.

Money raised through the event will support organizations focused on homelessness, mental health counseling, crime reduction, and local businesses.

“I couldn’t be happier to see this cherished tradition continue with the Affordable Hawaii Foundation,” Onouye said.

Organizers said people who sign up at the DoHo Night Market on Sept. 18 will also receive a free gift.
