Hawaii County Civil Defense Administrator Talmadge Magno retires
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency Administrator Talmadge Magno is retiring after nearly a decade of leading disaster and emergency responses on Hawaii Island.

Magno, who officially retires on Aug. 1, was honored at a celebration Friday.
The Hawaii Island native took over the agency’s leadership in 2017 and, during his tenure, navigated responses to the island’s major emergencies, including volcanic eruptions, historic Kona low storms, and the 2018 false ballistic missile alert.
Prior to his county role, Magno served with the National Park Service. His career included serving as chief ranger at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, as well as working at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming and Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Magno said his parting advice to his successor is to build relationships and get to know everyone, as it is only a matter of time before the island faces its next natural disaster.
