E-motorcyclist critically injured in Makiki crash

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – An e-motorcyclist was critically injured after a crash in Makiki late Saturday night.

The crash happened at around 11:50 p.m. at the intersection of Punahou and Clark streets.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the rider was traveling against the flow of traffic in the southbound lanes when a 65-year-old driver allegedly made an illegal U-turn, and the two collided.

The rider was then ejected onto the road.

Police said the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services took him to the hospital in critical condition.

The 65-year-old driver was uninjured and remained on scene.

HPD said at this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
