First Alert Forecast: sunshine with moderate trades today, lighter tomorrow

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Youʻll feel the winds this morning, but theyʻll start to back off this afternoon. Add to that drier conditions meaning sunny days with a drier air mass. We’re not expecting any big rain systems to move in anytime soon, so expect these dry, lighter winds that may pickup to be moderate by midweek thru till the weekend.

Lighter winds starting tomorrow afternoon with drier conditions. There’s not much moisture in the air right now any showers that do happen will be light and possibly in the afternoons. We’re not seeing any rain systems heading our way in the next 5-7 days.

There’s a tropical disturbance forming way out in the Pacific near Mexico that we’re keeping an eye on. In about a week and a half, it might head toward Hawaii, but it’s way too early to know for sure—some weather models don’t even bring it close to us. The bottom line? Right now, the waves are normal for summer. But get ready—a bigger swell is later today through early next week that could bring really advisory level waves Monday and Tuesday. After that dies down, another south swell will arrive Thursday and keep the waves up through the weekend.

Tonight and this weekend, the water will be choppy out east but will calm down as the week goes on. Around the middle of next week, a tropical storm (Tropical Storm Elida) might send some energy our way and bump up the waves a bit on the East side. Later in the week, as the winds pick back up, the waves will get bigger again.
