Maui police respond to disorderly incident in Lahaina

LAHAINA (HawaiiNewsNow) – A man was arrested after an alleged assault stemming from a disorderly incident involving 30 people in Lahaina Friday.

The incident happened at around 10 p.m. in the pool area of Kaanapali Alii on 50 Nohea Kai Dr.

Officers with the Maui Police Department arrived on scene at around 10:10 p.m. and located about 10 to 15 individuals gathered near the pool area; several had visible injuries.

Investigators said seven victims from California, ranging in age from 17 to 62, reported that a large group of juveniles had allegedly assaulted multiple members of their party before fleeing before police arrived.

According to MPD, one victim told investigators that he and his family were at the pool when an unknown male ran toward the group asking for help. Then several juvenile males were seen chasing the unknown male.

Witnesses told police the group allegedly threw chairs and physically assaulted several individuals gathered near the pool and barbecue area.

MPD said medical personnel responded to the scene, and some were treated, while others declined. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Police said a 20-year-old Makawao man was arrested on suspicion of assault in the second degree and later released pending investigation.
