Firefighter crews respond to Kapahulu gas leak
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Firefighters responded to a gas leak in Kapahulu on Tuesday morning.
The Honolulu Fire Department said crews were called to McCorriston Street shortly after 10 a.m. and found an active leak caused by damaged piping during street construction.
Honolulu police issued a traffic advisory at 10:47 a.m., closing McCorriston Street between Alohea Avenue and Trousseau Street due to hazardous conditions.

Firefighters isolated the area and used air-monitoring equipment to determine which nearby areas were affected. Residents were notified as a precaution after elevated readings were detected.
Hawaii Gas crews repaired the leak, while HFD’s Hazardous Materials team conducted follow-up monitoring to confirm gas levels returned to normal.

Residents were later updated after the area was deemed safe.
