Hawaii man breaks Koko Head five-lap world record
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The average hiker takes about two hours to make a round trip up and down the many steps of Oahu’s Koko Head staircase, but one Hawaii man ran the famous hike five times in less than 85 minutes.

Michael Chin’s goal was to do a lap under 17 minutes.
He spent about three months preparing, tracking his progress on social media.
The 31-year-old says the comments were very motivating as he challenged himself to keep going.

“I’m around those years where I’m sort of like getting to the peak of my prime. I know that life is short, and I just want to make the most of my time on earth,” Chin said.

The Koko Head trail features 1,048 stairs and is about 1.6 miles round trip.
The current world record was one hour and 25 minutes for five round trip laps.
Chin beat that record by a few seconds.
