Hawaiian Airlines adds Kauai flights, carries relief supplies after Hurricane Lowell

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaiian Airlines is expanding its support for Kauai as recovery continues from Hurricane Lowell.

CEO Diana Birkett Rakow said the airline has restored its Kauai schedule and added flights to accommodate passengers and cargo.

The airline moved more than 7,000 passengers out of Lihue between Wednesday and Thursday alone.

Hawaiian is also working with Hawaiian Electric and Kauai Island Utility Cooperative to transport electricians to Līhuʻe to help restore critical infrastructure.

Its cargo teams are moving water, food donations and urgent medical shipments, including blood and laboratory equipment, to the island.

Rakow said the airline remains in contact with government agencies and relief organizations to support communities impacted by Lowell, including Niʻihau.

“We have been focused on helping with immediate relief efforts and the rebuilding, while safely supporting the travel needs of residents and visitors,” Rakow said.

The airline is also continuing to offer travel flexibility for passengers who need to change flights to or from Kauai.

Hawaiian said it will match donations of Atmos Rewards points to the American Red Cross of Hawaii, up to a total of 1 million points, to support transportation needs during recovery efforts.
