Wildfire prompts evacuations in Waikoloa Village
HAWAII ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) – Evacuations are underway due to a wildfire in South Kohala.

The blaze was reported at around 5 p.m., and the Hawaii Fire Department issued a wildfire warning for Waikoloa Village.
As of 5:45 p.m., officials said Buildings 4 and 5 of the Lofts have been evacuated. Waikoloa Elementary School Cafeteria is open as an evacuation shelter.

Waikoloa Road is closed from Paniolo to Highway 190, and the public is asked to avoid the area. Waikoloa Road from Paniolo to Queen Kaahumanu is only open to local traffic.
