Previously suspended search for stranded Nuuanu hiker ends in rescue

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu firefighter crews rescued a distressed hiker in Nuuanu Saturday morning.

HFD received a call Friday shortly before 8 p.m. about a stranded hiker in distress on the Kapalama Trail.

The man, reportedly in his 20s, was hiking alone around 2:30 p.m. when he slid about 20 feet and ended up on a steep hillside.

Rescue crews attempted to locate him, but poor visibility and hazardous trail conditions prompted them to suspend the search overnight.

Crews found the uninjured hiker shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday and airlifted him to a nearby landing zone.
