First Alert Forecast: Enhanced trade showers Tuesday night into Wednesday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Moderate to locally breezy trade winds are sticking around through the upcoming weekend, keeping a fairly typical summertime weather pattern in place. That means passing bands of low clouds and showers will continue to ride in on the trades, mainly affecting windward and mauka communities during the overnight and early morning hours. One of those moisture bands is moving through today and tonight, so expect a few more showers than usual, with occasional spillover into leeward neighborhoods.

The next round of enhanced moisture arrives Tuesday night and lingers into early Thursday, bringing another uptick in showers. While widespread flooding isn’t expected because the trade winds keep everything moving, a few heavier downpours could lead to localized ponding or minor flooding, especially in windward and mountain areas.

It will also start feeling noticeably more humid. Dew points are climbing into the lower 70s through the middle of the week, creating muggier conditions statewide before humidity gradually eases later in the week.

For beachgoers, south shore surf will slowly decline through Wednesday before a small boost arrives Thursday into Friday. An even larger long-period south swell is expected to arrive late Saturday, likely bringing another increase in surf for south-facing shores over the weekend.

East shores will stay rough and choppy thanks to the persistent trade winds, while north shores remain nearly flat.

Boaters should be aware that Small Craft Advisories remain posted for the typically windy waters around Maui County, the Big Island, and the Kaiwi and Alenuihaha Channels as fresh trade winds continue.
