MFD: Gasoline may have sparked Haiku carport fire

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) — Maui firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Haiku Wednesday night.

Crews responded to the 600 block of Mopua Street just before 7:30 p.m. and found a partially enclosed carport and storage shed engulfed in flames.

Firefighters extended multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire and protect nearby homes. No one was hurt or displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however the department said it may have been caused by gasoline being transferred between containers.

Officials estimated damage at about $5,000 for the structure and $50,000 for its contents, as reported by the owner.
