For the past four years, the city has blamed the closure of the Kuhio Beach Park bathroom on vandals who flushed clothes down the toilets, as well as mechanical and electrical issues with a pump, requiring more than $40,000 for repairs.
On Tuesday, in a post to the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Facebook, said it has been negotiating with the pump manufacturer and contracted installer over warranty maintenance.

Officials said the warranty is now being honored and additional maintenance is moving forward, with hopes the bathroom will reopen this summer.
DPR cautioned that previous malfunctions and damage could delay reopening. If needed, the city said it will need more repair funding or install temporary bathrooms.
