No tsunami threat following 4.6-magnitude quake off East Coast of Hawaii Island

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – No damage is expected from an earthquake off the East Coast of Hawaii Island early Wednesday morning.

The 4.6-magnitude quake had no apparent impact on the ongoing eruptions at Kilauea or Mauna Loa, according to the USGS.

There is no tsunami threat.

It happened just before 2:15 a.m. at a depth of 21 miles below sea level.

Nearly 170 people reported feeling it across Hawaii Island.

The USGS says the quake is part of a seismic swarm under the Pahala area that’s been active since 2019.
