Makiki church hosts free community resource event

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Makiki church hosted a free community event offering supplies, activities and support services Sunday.

First United Methodist Church on Beretania Street hosted its second annual community event from 9 a.m. to noon for those in need of assistance.

The event included bounce houses, fire trucks, snacks and 200 giveaway bags, along with free clothing and household items.

Thirteen community organizations were also on hand to help residents with SNAP benefits, Medicare, legal assistance and counseling.

Rev. Kim Houff said the goal is to connect neighbors with resources, especially after the recent storms.

“It’s important for them to know that there are people that care and organizations that are there to help them through whatever they’re going through,” Houff said.
