Police: Shooting tied to attempted robbery during garage dice game
According to police, two men, ages 19 and 21, approached a group that was gathered in the open garage of a home where a social dice gambling event was taking place.
Police said the 19-year-old threatened the group with a firearm and demanded money and property, and the second man also demanded property.
Police said that during a struggle over the firearm, the 19-year-old was shot and killed.
Nearby witnesses heard the bangs and the commotion cut through the night as the normally quiet street turned into a crime scene.
“I came outside to check and I seen some boys run up the road and I looked down the road and I saw a couple more other people, but just some kids walking up and down,” nearby resident Raynne Passi said.
Other neighbors reported hearing people rush to their cars and flee before paramedics and police arrived.

Neighbors: Home has been source of complaints about noise, parties
Hawaii News Now made contact with the family at the home, but they declined to comment, saying they needed time to process what happened.
Several neighbors both on and off camera said the home has been a source of problems, including noise complaints and large parties, since the current residents moved in about five years ago.
HPD has been contacted in the past, and neighbors say gatherings have gotten rowdy overnight. Still, this shooting is jarring for residents.
“This neighborhood is quiet, everybody gets along, so just surprising to hear all that,” Passi added.
