The Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Specialist Certificate is a one-year hands-on program that teaches students about cesspool conversion and sustainable wastewater installation to meet the growing demand for industry professionals.
Hawaii Community College said recent flooding events highlighted the vulnerabilities of aging infrastructure and the need for professionals to replace systems.
School officials said the 23-credit certificate combines coursework in design, construction and sustainability with experimental learning.
