HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – ​A local family-owned business is putting a vibrant, purple twist on a backyard classic, making history as the first to bring ube smash burgers to Hawaii.

Chef Clarence Coloma and his wife and co-owner, Emi, recently joined HNN’s Sunrise Weekends to share the inspiration behind their rising food business, Caes Smash and Grindz, which is named after their daughter, Caemila.

Chef Clarence has had decade-long career including training with American Hawaii Cruises, serving as an Executive Sous Chef at the Hilton Mission Valley in San Diego, and later working as the Executive Chef for ABC Stores’ Island Country Markets.
