Lihue woman dies after being pulled from waters near Kauai lighthouse

LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Kauai police said a woman was pulled from the waters below the Ninini Point Lighthouse, located north of Nawiliwili Harbor, and was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

On Saturday, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officials said bystanders reported what appeared to be an unresponsive person floating in the water below the Ninini Point Lighthouse.

U.S. Coast Guard officials pulled the individual to shore, where first responders from the Kauai Fire Department performed lifesaving measures but were unable to revive them.

Medics then transported the individual to Wilcox Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.

KPD said the decedent has been identified as Millie Mallon, a 35-year-old woman of Lihue.

An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of death and any contributing factors. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest foul play.
