UH women’s soccer falls to nationally ranked Texas Tech

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The University of Hawaii women’s soccer team showed that they can hang with some of the best after opening the season against nationally ranked Texas Tech.

UH allowed the Red Raiders to score just one goal, the only one of Thursday night’s match.

“We didn’t get the result we wanted, but we have to keep in mind this is a top 25 team, and I felt like in the first half we kept up shots-wise and stats-wise and physically,” said UH forward Anuhea Aluli.

UH head coach Michele Nagamine added: “That is a fantastic team, Texas Tech is pretty legendary in the soccer circles.”

The players shared that sense of pride despite the 1-0 loss.

The team opened the season without key starters like Nalani Damacion and Leila Kahoano, who are still recovering from injuries.

Fans said once the ‘Bows get back to full strength, there’s no stopping them.

“It’s an exciting year coming up and we gonna be alright. I believe we gonna be in the playoffs,” said UH fan Jason Ah Mook Sang.

That sense of confidence bled through lower Manoa as fans packed the new field on campus.

“The debut, the first game on this field even though it’s not what we planned, the way it worked out and the fans that showed up, we got a great game and the field is beautiful,” said UH Athletics Director Matt Elliott.
