Police arrest Mountain View shooting suspect

HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 53-year-old Hilo man was critically injured in a shooting in the Mountain View area early Tuesday morning, according to Hawaii Island police.

Officers have opened an attempted murder investigation into the shooting, which happened on Waikiki Street in the Livingston subdivision.

Puna patrol officers responded to the scene where a man was reportedly shot multiple times in front of a residence.

A preliminary investigation identified a 35-year-old man as the suspect, who reportedly fled the area in a pick-up truck before police arrived.

The victim was taken to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center in critical condition.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m., officers located the suspect on Kauai Street and arrested him without incident.

He was transported to the East Hawaii Detention Facility.

Police have requested a search warrant for the residence on Kauai Street.
