Applications open for first round of Hawaii Green Fee funding

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Applications are now open for the first round of funding through Hawaii’s new Green Fee program.

The state has appropriated about $129 million to support projects focused on environmental stewardship, climate resilience, hazard mitigation and sustainable tourism.

Eligible applicants include community organizations, nonprofits, Native Hawaiian organizations, conservation groups and other entities working to protect Hawaii’s natural and cultural resources.

“The Green Fee is a transformational investment in Hawaii’s future,” said Kalani Kaanaana, CEO of Hawaii Green Growth. “We encourage every eligible organization with a project that supports stewardship, climate resilience or sustainability to explore these initial opportunities and apply.”

Projects could include watershed protection, native ecosystem restoration, wildfire risk reduction, coastal management and other climate resilience efforts.

Hawaii Green Growth has launched an online tracker to help organizations find available funding opportunities. Additional solicitations may be posted through the state’s Hawaii Awards and Notices Data System (HANDS).

A series of statewide workshops is being held to help organizations navigate the application process:

Organizers said the workshops will cover application requirements, compliance and best practices for preparing competitive proposals.
