Keaau man arrested after fatal shooting in Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision

HAWAII ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Keaau man was arrested after reporting to police that he was attacked and allegedly shot another man in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.

Hawaii Island police were called to the 15-1500 block of Makuu Drive in Keaau shortly before 10:20 p.m. Saturday.

Police responded and found an unresponsive man, later identified as Jose Adame Romero, 41, of Keaau. with multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers said they began lifesaving measures until the Hawaii Fire Department arrived and determined Romero had succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 10:44 p.m.

Police identified the reporting party, and he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and taken to the Hawaii Detention Facility.

The investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the exact cause and manner of Romero’s death.
