Honolulu Skyline wins national innovation award

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Officials gathered at the Halawa Aloha Stadium Skyline station Friday to receive a national award.

The American Public Transportation Association recognized Oahu’s public transit system’s use of innovation and technology.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi and Executive Director and CEO of HART Lori Kahikina were joined by other City leaders at the Halawa event.

Kahikina and Honolulu Transportation Director Roger Morton will accept the award for Skyline in October.

Skyline was recognized for having the first driverless public transit in the U.S.

“Everything we’re doing on this project is the very best we can do,” Blangiardi said. “It’s also the very best of what’s being done elsewhere.”

The American Public Transportation Association gives out yearly awards for the public transportation industry.
