Hawaii Foodbank to hold food distribution after Lala

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – In the wake of Lala’s destructive path, food distribution events are being held on Oahu to help residents in need.

The City and County of Honolulu announced Thursday that it is partnering with Hawaii Foodbank and is providing $200,000 to help source and transport food for distribution across Oahu communities.

Hawaii Foodbank’s current supplemental food distribution schedule includes:

Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The city said no advanced registration is required for distributions through KEY Project and Hope Chapel Kahuku. Registration is required for ʻElepaio Social Services, and can be done online here.

Attendees should confirm the latest distribution information with the organizations before going to a site, as schedules and availability may change.

The city said ʻElepaio Social Services also plans to distribute hot meals beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Nanakuli High and Intermediate School. They’ll be provided by Lanakila Pacific, The Salvation Army, KUPU and Jeremiah’s Island Fusion, in partnership with Chef Hui.

Additional food assistance

Oahu residents in need of food assistance, including those who live away from the supplemental distribution sites, can use Hawaii Foodbank’s Food Assistance Finder to locate nearby resources.

The Pantry by Feeding Hawaii Together, a client-choice food pantry, is also open to anyone in need. It operates by appointment only, which can be scheduled online here.
