Fencing renovation project begins at Centennial Park Waikiki

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Centennial Park Waikiki closed Monday as construction begins on a fencing renovation project.

The Rotary Club of Honolulu, the City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation, and local contractors are replacing the park’s chain-link fence with new metal fencing atop the existing rock wall.

The roughly $310,000 project is expected to be completed by the end of October, when the park is scheduled to reopen.

“We are pleased to be beginning this last major phase of construction on the park,” said Rob Hale, chair of the Volunteer Centennial Park Committee. “It has been a community effort involving many individuals and organizations over the last 10 years.”

Centennial Park Waikiki opened in 2021 after being transformed from a former construction staging area. Since then, the Rotary Club of Honolulu has contributed about $1.9 million toward the park through fundraising and donations.

The park, at 425 Royal Hawaiian Ave., will remain closed throughout construction, though maintenance and volunteer work will continue during the project.
