Dozens of firefighters respond to Alewa Heights residential fire

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire that brought 40 firefighters to Alewa Heights on Monday.

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:33 p.m. and responded to a building fire at 1326 Alewa Drive in Alewa Heights.

The first unit arrived on scene at 9:40 p.m. to find a working fire at a two-story, multi-family residential structure. Firefighters secured a water supply, initiated an offensive fire attack, and completed a search to confirm no occupants were inside.

One dog and one cat were rescued from the structure. The status of the animals is unknown at this time.

The fire was declared under control at 9:55 p.m. and fully extinguished at 10:11 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates.
