Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi and Department of Housing and Land Management Director Kevin Auger gathered at the Eluwene Street property on Monday afternoon for a ceremonial demolition to mark the start of the project.

Plans for the site include approximately 150 affordable housing units targeted at households earning 60% or less of the area median income.

Located near the future Mokauea Skyline station, city officials say the project is part of Honolulu’s ongoing push to build affordable housing near public transit as the rail system expands into town.
