Arkansas man charged with sexual assault on Hawaii Island

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Island police have charged 64-year-old Timothy Efird of Hot Springs, Arkansas, with first- and second-degree sexual assault following an investigation into two reported incidents involving an adult female victim in West Hawaii.

On August 4, at 6:28 p.m., officers responded to a condominium complex in the Waikoloa area after receiving a report of a sexual assault involving an adult female victim.

During the investigation, police learned that Efird had reportedly sexually assaulted the victim on two separate occasions.

One incident reportedly occurred during the early morning hours of July 31 at a residence in Kailua-Kona, while the second occurred in the morning of August 4 at a condominium in the Waikoloa area.

At 7:48 p.m. on August 4, officers located Efird and placed him under arrest as detectives continued the investigation.

Efird was subsequently charged on August 6 with first-degree sexual assault and second-degree sexual assault. His total bail was set at $300,000. His initial court date was Friday, August 7, in Kona District Court.
